چکیده

Methods: Eighty bovine pulp fragments were prepared, and their weight was determined using a precision balance. Each pulp fragment was immersed for 2 hours in a solution/mixture that was based on the following groups: G1 – saline solution; G2 – 0.5% NaOCl; G3 – 1.0% NaOCl; G4 – 2.5% NaOCl; G5 – 17% EDTA; G6 – 0.5% NaOCl+17% EDTA; G7 – 1.0% NaOCl+ 17% EDTA; and G8 – 2.5% NaOCl+17% EDTA. The final weight was measured, and the weight loss was calculated. A statistical analysis was performed using either the Student’s t-test for paired samples or an ANOVA and Tukey tests (P<0.05 was considered to be significant).

Antagonistic interactions between sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidine, EDTA, and citric acid.

INTRODUCTION Root canal irrigants play a significant role in the elimination of microorganisms, tissue dissolution, and the removal of debris and smear layer. No single solution is able to fulfill these actions completely; therefore, their association is required. The aim of this investigation was to review the antagonistic interactions occurring when sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), chlorhexidine ...

Evaluation of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution and gel for smear layer removal.

The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the efficacy of 24% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel and 17% EDTA solution in cleaning dentine walls after root canal instrumentation. Thirty human canine teeth were divided into three groups of 10 teeth each. In Group 1, 1% sodium hypochlorite was used as the irrigating solution; in Group 2, 1% sodium hypochlorite was used with 17% ED...

Chlorhexidine gel associated with papain in pulp tissue dissolution

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the capacity of 2% chlorhexidine gel associated with 8% papain gel in comparison with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite in bovine pulp tissue dissolution. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety bovine pulps of standardized sizes were used and fragmented into 5-mm sizes. The fragments were removed from the root middle third region. They were divided into 6 experimental gr...

Differential aggressiveness of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid in causing canal wall erosion in the presence of sodium hypochlorite.

OBJECTIVE This study tested the hypothesis that the use of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as a final irrigant causes canal wall erosion only after prolonged use of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) as the initial irrigant. METHODS Two irrigation protocols were employed: (1) 5.25% NaOCl as the initial irrigant for 10 min and 17% EDTA as the final irrigant for 2 min; and (2) 5.25% NaOC...
